Solar Revenue Loss Calculator

Operators leak 4–9% of annual yield to soiling, undetected faults, and suboptimal dispatch — silently. Enter your fleet's MW, location, age and price model to see how many MWh — and how much revenue — is leaving the meter.

How the model works

Losses are computed in MWh first, then priced through your contract model. Recovery is bounded by realistic per-loss-type bands — not a single hand-waved capture rate.

Soiling

70–90% recoverable

Climate- and dust-driven; 1.5–6%. NREL-aligned regional bands; arid and high-particulate sites sit at the top. Cleaning optimization captures the majority of the loss.

Undetected faults

50–80% recoverable

Scales with asset age: 1–4.8% as drift, string failures, and inverter under-performance accumulate without anomaly detection. Recovery tracks telemetry depth and triage cadence.

Suboptimal dispatch

20–50% recoverable

Curtailment plus missed price-signal capture; ~1.2% baseline drifting up with age. Recovery is capped — firm transmission curtailment is structural, not addressable through ops.

Disclaimer: results are directional estimates based on public benchmarks. Actual losses vary with module technology, tracker configuration, market structure, PPA contracting, and O&M maturity. Pair with on-site instrumentation before committing capex.
